A Few More Thoughts ... From the Webmaster Workshop

by Michael Schneider | Sep 01, 2011
What a great group we had for the Webmaster Workshop last week in Chicago!  I thought the food and the service at the Sofitel was fantastic.  The networking and the conversations seemed to be valuable to all and, as usual, it was like drinking through a fire hose as we were trying to take in all of the good ideas and case studies. As you settle back into your daily work routine after attending the Webmaster Workshop, I’m sure you’re wondering how you will be able to implement all of items on your take away list … one attendee left with a list of 26! The good news is – I think we all agreed -- there is always room for positive improvement; the bad news is that we need more hours in the day. Here are some key thoughts from our time together to keep you focused on implementing those positive improvements.
  • Social media can play an important role in your conversations with patients, physicians, consumers and employees, but you need to strategically use the right tools to implement a consistent social media plan rather than just an occasional post.
  • A lot of folks struggle with finding the appropriate staffing level, organizational structure, and governance for Web-based efforts …develop a strong foundation so you have the framework to support change and growth.
  • Networking and sharing of ideas is critical to move beyond our “walls” and imagine new opportunities and experiences. Are you continuing the dialogue with colleagues?
  • Mobile is playing a significant role in healthcare Web strategies – we talked about mobile Web sites and mobile apps.  Make sure you spend time organizing your mobile plan, that it aligns with your goals, and that it’s not just another item on your “to do” list.
  • Internal collaboration is the key to success…are you talking (and listening!) across departments and functions?  It’s valuable and it will help you increase your organizational Web culture.
  • eMetrics and analytics is a real sore spot for a lot of folks.  We are big believers in continual assessment and measuring progress, too.   We got a lot of good feedback about the dashboard brainstorming and the ideas for collecting data. Make sure you have a process in place that continually measures your progress.  And remember to consistently communicate with others in the organization about the effectiveness of Web-based efforts.
Thank you for taking the time to give us feedback and such positive comments!  We came away from the Webmaster Workshop with great input from our participants that will help with planning the Webmaster Workshops next year. We’ve already started thinking about locations, topics, and meeting variations for 2012.  So let’s keep this conversation going … let us know what you’d like to see covered in Greystone’s range of educational opportunities. Working together, we can always improve the experience. Good luck with that to-do list and remember to pace yourself!
