ChatGPT: A Brief Analysis by Convince & Convert

Feb 22, 2023

Since its introduction a few months ago, ChatGPT has taken the world by storm. This technology has the potential to completely change the way our industry – and others – approaches content creation, as well as other tasks. image of ChatGPT logo

Our friends at Convince & Convert have done a quick rundown to help us better understand ChatGPT.

First of all, what is ChatGPT? It’s a natural language processor that can be used to generate text and translate into different languages. Its coding allows it to consume enormous amounts of content from all over the web. When asked, it can pull information from the vast database and provide text using the selected “human speak” level. ChatGPT provides text that is mostly grammatically correct and readable.

How can ChatGPT be used? Convince & Convert sees the platform as more of an adjunct to accelerate content creation rather than a substitute creator. It should be considered a means of enhancing the capabilities of your content team, not replacing them. An example would be to use ChatGPT to create first drafts, then have the content team edit and finesse it. Other uses are creating ad headlines, short body copy and other small copy needs. By having ChatGPT do the primary research and provide a first draft, content creators will have more time to strategize and plan. As Convince & Convert stated, “[The] invention of email didn’t make the postal service extinct. It changed the volume and reliance on mail carriers but we still need them.”

ChatGPT sounds like the best thing since sliced bread, but beware of potential problems.

  • ChatGPT should not be considered a replacement for human understanding of the audience.
  • It should not be allowed to interfere with relationships among coworkers or clients.
  • Transparency about the content production process should be paramount.
  • There are questions regarding legality, such as copyright and ethical considerations, that will need to be addressed.
  • It’s not always going to be right. Any content generated by an AI platform needs to be verified for accuracy and correct grammar.
